Student investment clubs are one of the fastest ways to build a finance network on campus, but they vary a lot in how they run. Some manage a small real portfolio, others focus on pitch competitions and speaker events.
Before joining, ask what a typical member commits per week, whether junior members get to present, and where alumni have ended up. Clubs with an active alumni channel tend to be far more useful come recruiting season.
If your program doesn’t have one, that’s an opportunity. Starting a small research group with four or five classmates gives you something concrete to talk about in interviews and costs nothing but time.
