Last updated: October 10, 2026

The Finance Student (thefinancestudent.com) is run by Frank Wang, a sole proprietor in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Who is responsible. Frank Wang is responsible for privacy at The Finance Student. Contact: contact@thefinancestudent.com.

What we collect.

  • Email alerts: your email address, the city you choose, when you subscribed and confirmed, the IP address used to sign up, and the consent wording you agreed to.
  • Messages you send us: your name, email address and what you write.
  • Visits to the site: our host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time) to keep the site secure. We also use Google Analytics (through Google Site Kit) to count visits and see which pages are popular; it uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. We don’t use it to identify you.
  • We never collect payment information.

Why we use it. To send the alerts you asked for and keep proof that you asked; to answer your messages; to keep the site secure and working. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we don’t use it for anything you didn’t sign up for.

Who else handles it. Service providers that store or process it for us: Hostinger (website hosting and email), Google (analytics and site operations) and GitHub (site code). Some providers may store information outside Canada, where it can be subject to that country’s laws.

Cookies. The site uses cookies needed for it to work (for example, login cookies for site administrators). Google Analytics also sets cookies to measure visits. You can opt out by blocking cookies in your browser or installing Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

How long we keep it. Subscriber details: while you’re subscribed. After you unsubscribe we stop emailing you immediately and delete your details within 30 days, except a record of when you subscribed and unsubscribed, kept up to 3 years as proof under Canada’s anti-spam law. Messages: up to 2 years. Server logs: on our host’s schedule.

Your choices. Unsubscribe any time with the link in every email. Email contact@thefinancestudent.com to get a copy of your information, correct it or delete it; we reply within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Security. HTTPS encryption, two-factor protected administrator access, limited access and regular backups. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we’ll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes. We’ll post any update here and change the date above.
