SUM OF FIVE is running an evening mixer in the ByWard Market on Wednesday, August 19, and the pitch is narrow on purpose: tech and finance people only. Two hours, one room, and a crowd of professionals who already work in the two sectors most Ottawa business students are trying to break into.

Why this one is worth a look
Most general networking nights in Ottawa pull a wide mix of industries, which is fine for practice but thin on relevance if you are aiming at a bank, a fund, or a product team. Filtering for tech and finance changes the odds. The people you talk to are more likely to know which desks are hiring students, how their firm treats co-op placements, and who actually reads inbound applications.
How to get value out of two hours
A licensed lounge is a loud room, so plan for short conversations rather than long ones. Have a two-sentence version of what you study and what you are looking for, ask people what their team is working on instead of asking for a job, and get a name you can follow up with on LinkedIn the next morning. Three real follow-ups beat a pocket full of business cards you never use. Dalhousie Street is walkable from the Rideau O-Train station, and street parking in the Market disappears early on weeknights.
Tickets and the full listing are on Eventbrite.
