What the evening looks like
The host has built this one around atmosphere as much as conversation: Music.Art.PPL is bringing a live DJ and a live painter, plus games, contests and door prizes, with lounge seating, high-top tables, a dance floor and a photo zone. Attendees come from a broad cross-section of Ottawa industries, so the room is less finance-specific than a CFA or accounting event but far easier to work if you do not already have contacts. Note that the organiser films and photographs the evening, and buying a ticket grants permission to use that footage in future promotion.
Is it worth it if you are still a student?
At $85 for a non-member ticket it is a real spend on a student budget, so go in with a plan. Two hours is enough for five genuine conversations, which beats collecting twenty business cards you never follow up on. A few practical notes: tickets are sold online in advance only and never at the door, they can be transferred to someone else with at least 24 hours’ notice, and refunds need to be requested in writing at least 72 business hours before the start time. If your employer or student association is a Board of Trade member, ask whether you can go on the member rate.
